Minister of Agriculture, Professor Rizq Slaimiya, met today, Tuesday, with the Governor of Jenin Governorate, Mr. Kamal Abu al-Rub, and held an extensive meeting at the Governorate headquarters with representatives of local bodies to discuss arrangements and preparations for the 2026 olive harvest season, address Israeli attacks against farmers and their lands, and explore ways to strengthen their resilience and protect their agricultural resources.
Slaimiya emphasized the difficult situation, noting that Israeli violations have affected every aspect of life for Palestinian citizens and farmers. He pointed out the scale of the attacks, stating that everyone is a target. He called for avoiding negativity and exercising patience, composure, and wisdom, stressing that now is the time for unity and responsibility to defend our future, our land, and our children, and to strengthen our steadfastness, and resilience in the face of the targeting and the major conspiracy against our people.
Slaimiya emphasized the importance of compassion and solidarity among our people, and of reviving the spirit of cooperation that prevailed during the First Intifada. He stressed the need to preserve our resources, our land, our water, and our food, and to enhance our ability to persevere and rely on our national resources. He also pointed to the importance of coordination between the Ministry of Agriculture, the Governorate, and local authorities to ensure the success of the olive harvest season and to protect farmers and their lands.
For his part, the Governor of Jenin, Mr. Kamal Abu al-Rub stressed the importance of strengthening cooperation and coordination with the Ministry of Agriculture, especially given the difficult circumstances the governorate is facing. He commended the Ministry and its staff for their efforts in supporting farmers and bolstering their resilience on their land. He noted that farmers are facing ongoing attacks and violations targeting their land, property, and livelihoods, emphasizing that confronting these challenges requires concerted efforts from official institutions, local bodies, and the local community. He expressed his appreciation for the Ministry's efforts and the governorate's readiness to continue joint work to ensure a successful olive harvest and protect farmers.
