The Minister of Agriculture, Professor Riziq Slaimiya, received, in his office at the Ministry of Agriculture headquarters in Ramallah, the Mayor of Turmus Aya, Mr. Nawaf Al-Zaghloul, and his accompanying delegation, in the presence of the Assistant Undersecretary for the Natural Resources Sector, Eng. Hossam Tlaib, to discuss the file of high-value agricultural lands and mechanisms for protecting them, in addition to discussing the expansion of the town’s structural plan, taking into account the preservation of agricultural lands and strengthening the steadfastness of citizens.
During the meeting, Zaghloul reviewed the challenges facing the town, especially the risks resulting from settlement expansion and the presence of settlement outposts in the vicinity of the areas targeted for expansion, stressing the importance of finding organizational solutions that contribute to strengthening the Palestinian presence and protecting the land from confiscation, while preserving the agricultural character of the high-value areas.
For his part, Minister Slaimiya stressed that protecting agricultural lands constitutes a national priority, stressing the Ministry’s keenness to preserve lands of high agricultural value as a pillar of Palestinian food security, and in line with the needs of development and organized urban expansion.
The two sides agreed to continue coordination between the Ministry of Agriculture, the competent authorities, and the municipality of Turmus Aya, to ensure the application of special regulatory provisions in the areas included in the expansion, which preserve the agricultural character of the lands, support the steadfastness of citizens in their lands, and enhance their ability to face the challenges and targets to which the Palestinian land is exposed.
