Minister of Agriculture Professor Rizq Slaimiya and the Governor of Jericho and Jordan Valley,. Hussein Hamayel, participated today in an event to plant 150 date palm saplings at the Presidential Guard Training Center in Jericho. The event was attended by the Deputy Commander of the Presidential Guard, Brigadier General Rami Hijjo, along with a number of Presidential Guard officers and personnel.
This event is part of the Ministry of Agriculture’s efforts to boost interest in the agricultural sector, expand green spaces, and encourage the planting of fruitful trees particularly date palms, which are a key crop in Jericho and Jordan Valley governorate and are integral to its agricultural identity and status as a date-producing region.
Minister Slaimiya emphasized the importance of such initiatives in fostering partnership and integration between official and security institutions, instilling a culture of caring for the land and the environment, and encouraging tree planting—all of which contribute to supporting the agricultural sector and increasing green areas.
Slaimiya noted that date palm cultivation represents a vital part of the agricultural landscape in Jericho and the Jordan Valley. He affirmed the Ministry's continued support for date palm cultivation and the development of this sector, aiming to boost agricultural production and benefit both farmers and the national economy.
For his part, Governor Hamayel highlighted the importance of these initiatives in strengthening cooperation among national institutions and supporting the governorate's agricultural and environmental sectors. He commended the Ministry of Agriculture’s efforts to encourage the expansion of date palm and fruit trees cultivation. The event was attended by the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, Engineer Badr Al-Hawamdeh; the Director General of Jericho and Jordan Valley Agriculture Directorate, Engineer Ashraf Barakat; and the Directorate’s staff, alongside officers and personnel from the Presidential Guard Training Center.
Participants took part in planting palm saplings as part of efforts to foster institutional and community engagement in caring for the land and the environment, and to support the agricultural sector.
