Ministry of Agriculture: South Hebron Agriculture Directorate and "EcoPeace Palestine" organize a field trip for 28 participants to Tubas water treatment plant

The South Hebron Directorate of Agriculture, in cooperation with EcoPeace, organized a field visit to Tubas Wastewater Treatment Plant. Twenty-eight participants, including representatives from the municipalities of Dura and Al-Dhahiriya, Dura Agricultural Manufacturing Association, and (Al-Ghad Youth Forum), took part in the visit. The aim was to learn about the plant's experience in wastewater treatment and the potential for utilizing treated water in the agricultural sector.

The visit included a tour of the plant's facilities, where participants observed the various stages of water treatment, from receiving wastewater and its arrival at the plant, through the treatment and purification processes, to the use of treated water in agriculture. They also learned about the operational mechanisms and technical aspects of the treatment process.

Participants also met with the plant's staff, who provided a detailed explanation of the plant's operations, the treatment stages, and the mechanisms for utilizing treated water. The staff also answered participants' questions regarding water quality and the plant's operational and economic costs.

The tour aimed to raise awareness among farmers and officials about the importance of establishing wastewater treatment plants in the Palestinian governorates, highlighting the benefits of reusing treated water in agriculture, the cost and effort savings these plants can offer, and their contribution to mitigating the environmental impact of untreated wastewater discharge.

At the end of the tour, participants expressed their gratitude to the South Hebron Agriculture Directorate and EcoPeace Palestine for organizing the visit. They emphasized the importance of such field visits in promoting knowledge and awareness about the importance of water treatment and reuse, and encouraging the use of treated water in agriculture when available in their areas, in accordance with approved health and environmental standards.

This tour is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen cooperation between official and non-governmental organizations and relevant stakeholders, exchange expertise and experiences in the sustainable management of water resources, and support the Palestinian agricultural sector.
