The Ministry of Agriculture launched the national campaign to vaccinate dairy cows to combat the foot-and-mouth disease variant in Hebron Governorate, vaccinating more than 7,600 head on its first day

As part of its ongoing efforts to control the SAT1 variant of foot-and-mouth disease and in implementation of the national response plan, the Ministry of Agriculture announced the launch of a national vaccination campaign for dairy cows, starting in Hebron Governorate. This initiative is part of preventative measures aimed at protecting the livestock sector and limiting the spread of the disease.

The Ministry explained that field veterinary teams began carrying out free vaccinations this morning in various areas of the governorate. They have already vaccinated 3,450 head of cattle in dairy farms belonging to the Central Hebron Veterinary Directorate, distributed as follows: 2,775 head in Qalqas, 475 head in Wadi al-Baqar, and 200 head in Idhna. The vaccination campaign will be completed tomorrow in Qalqas and Beit Kahil areas.

In the same context, teams carried out a vaccination campaign for 1,200 head of cattle in Yatta, including the areas of Al-Baraka (150 head), Beit Amra (50 head), Al-Junaidi (700 head), and Al-Hila (300 head).

The campaign also covered areas north of Hebron, where 400 head of cattle were vaccinated in Masafer Bani Na'im, in addition to 45 head in Birin, 50 head in Al-Arroub camp, and 50 head in Beit Ummar.

As part of the ongoing field efforts, the South Hebron/Dura Veterinary Department vaccinated 2,450 dairy cows in the Al-Burj and Wadi Al-Kilab areas.Thus, the total number of cattle vaccinated on the first day of the campaign reached 7,645 head across the Hebron Governorate.

The Ministry of Agriculture affirms that this campaign is part of the comprehensive response plan to combat foot-and-mouth disease (SAT1), given the regional challenges associated with the spread of the disease, and emphasizes the continued implementation of the vaccination program according to well-defined priorities. The Ministry reiterates its call to livestock breeders to adhere to biosecurity measures and to fully cooperate with veterinary teams, in order to protect their herds and maintain the sustainability of livestock production.
