The Ministry of Agriculture participated in a government tour to several villages and towns in Ramallah and Al-Bireh Governorate, including Deir Jarir, Taybeh, Rammun, and Deir Dibwan, to assess their needs and gain firsthand knowledge of the situation in light of escalating settler attacks.
The delegation included the Minister of Agriculture's Advisor for Governorate Affairs, Eng. Samir Samara, and the Director General of Ramallah and Al-Bireh Agriculture Directorate, Eng. Zafer Al-Hamshari, representing the Minister of Agriculture, Professor Riziq Slaimiya.
The government delegation also included the Minister of Local Government, Eng. Sami Hijjawi, the Minister of Public Works and Housing, Eng. Ahed Bseiso, and the Head of the Palestinian Water Authority, Dr. Ziad Al-Mimi, along with the Deputy Governor of Ramallah and Al-Bireh, representatives from the Wall and Settlement Resistance Commission, the Ministries of Transport, Communications, Education and Higher Education, and Health, and representatives from several other government institutions.
The tour included visits to sites in Deir Jarir, including confiscated lands, as well as extensive meetings with local councils and municipalities in Taybeh, Rammun, and Deir Dibwan. Discussions focused on the most pressing needs and challenges facing these areas, following up on priority issues, and strengthening coordination between government institutions and local authorities.
Representatives from the Ministry of Agriculture discussed the needs of the agricultural sector and farmers in the targeted areas, the damage and attacks on agricultural lands, and the importance of strengthening government interventions to protect the land, support farmers, and enable them to continue cultivating their land. This, in turn, bolsters their resilience in the face of attacks by the occupation and settlers.
The Ministry of Agriculture affirms its continued monitoring of the situation of farmers and agricultural lands in Ramallah and Al-Bireh Governorate, and its coordination with various ministries, institutions, and local authorities to address needs and implement necessary agricultural interventions. This aims to protect the land, enhance the resilience of farmers, and ensure the sustainability of agricultural production.
The tour comes as part of the government’s periodic visits to the governorates, with the aim of strengthening coordination and integration between governmental and local institutions, following up on the implementation of government projects and interventions according to the needs and priorities of the regions, and responding to the challenges facing citizens, especially in areas that are subject to attacks and land confiscation.
