The Ministry of Agriculture has supplied two electronic milking systems to two model sheep farms. One in the city of Yatta (Hebron Governorate) and the other in Masafer Bani Naim. This initiative falls under the "Supporting Palestinian Resilience in Area C through the Sustainable Livestock Development Program," a project co-funded by the European Union and the Palestinian Government and implemented by the Ministry of Agriculture in coordination with the Ministry of Finance.
The total cost of the two milking systems amounted to 945,000 NIS. They were supplied by a Turkish company represented in Palestine by (Al-Hasad Al-Haditha Company)with the aim of supporting the small ruminant breed improvement program, enhancing livestock production efficiency, providing accurate and reliable milk production data, and modernizing farm production records through computerized software.
In Yatta, the electronic milking system serves a model farm housing approximately 300 sheep, while the farm in Masafer Bani Naim houses around 500 sheep. This initiative aligns with the Ministry's strategy to develop model farms that can serve as hubs for implementing modern management and production techniques.
Minister of Agriculture Professor Rizq Slaimiya emphasized that the introduction of electronic milking systems marks a significant step in supporting breed improvement and genetic selection programs. These systems provide precise production data that facilitate the selection of animals with superior productive traits, improve herd management and nutrition, and reduce the time, effort, and costs associated with the milking process. The procurement of electronic milking systems is part of the Ministry of Agriculture’s efforts to develop the livestock sector, promote the use of modern agricultural technologies, boost farmers' productivity, improve the quality of animal products, and advance breed improvement and genetic selection programs all of which contribute to achieving sustainable agricultural development and strengthening the resilience of farmers across the various governorates.
