The Ministry of Agriculture discusses with representatives of the poultry sector mechanisms for developing the sector and forming a specialized advisory committee.

Following directions from the Minister of Agriculture, Professor Rizq Slaimiya, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, Eng. Bader Al-Hawamdeh, met at the Ministry headquarters with representatives of the poultry sector. Also present were representatives from the Farmers' Union and the Agricultural Union, the Assistant Undersecretary for the Economic Sector, the Director General of Marketing, and the Director of the Poultry Department, representing the General Directorate of Extension and Rural Development. The meeting addressed the current state of the poultry sector, the challenges it faces, and mechanisms to enhance its resilience and development.

The Undersecretary emphasized that the Ministry views the poultry sector as a cornerstone of food security and is committed to strengthening partnerships with all components of the private sector and agricultural unions to find practical and sustainable solutions to the challenges it faces.

Participants reviewed the most prominent challenges facing the sector, primarily economic and environmental challenges, and their impact on production and sustainability. They also discussed ways to protect domestic products and enhance their competitiveness. The meeting discussed a proposal to form a specialized advisory committee comprising representatives from relevant entities. This committee would serve as a consultative framework to study the current state of the sector, identify its priorities, and submit recommendations and proposals to support its development and enhance its contribution to achieving food security.

Participants also emphasized the importance of tightening controls on poultry product smuggling, given the direct harm it inflicts on local producers and farmers. They further stressed the need to establish a comprehensive database and accurate statistics on the number of farms, production capacity, and workers in the sector. This would contribute to sound planning and data-driven decision-making.

At the conclusion of the meeting, it was agreed to hold regular meetings to follow up on issues related to the sector. Prior to the next meeting, participants will submit written proposals outlining the advisory committee's objectives, operational mechanisms, and composition. These proposals will then be reviewed and approved, paving the way for the committee's commencement of its work. This initiative aims to strengthen the partnership between the Ministry and sector representatives and contribute to the development and sustainability of the poultry sector.
