
Jericho and the Jordan Valley: August 11, 2026
The Ministry of Agriculture, Jericho and Jordan Valley Governorate, and the Jordanian-Palestinian Company for Marketing Agricultural Products held a coordination meeting today, Tuesday, at the Governorate headquarters. The meeting was attended by the Governor of Jericho and the Jordan Valley, Dr. Hussein Hamayel, and the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Agriculture and Vice Chairman of the Company's Board of Directors, Engineer Bader Hawamdeh. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the steps for establishing a packing, packaging, and storage center for agricultural products in the governorate, with an estimated investment cost of approximately two million dollars. The project is funded by the World Bank for the benefit of the Palestinian Ministry of Agriculture. The meeting also addressed the requirements for commencing project implementation.
Participants in the meeting included the Company's Director in Palestine, Mr. Tariq Abu Khayzaran, Board Member and Assistant Undersecretary Mr. Ahmed Zakarna, Director General of Qalqilya Agriculture Directorate, Engineer Ahmad Eid, and the Director of Government Properties and Survey in the Governorate, Engineer Misbah Thawqan. The meeting reviewed the details of the project, which is planned to be built on land allocated to the Ministry of Agriculture in the village of Nwai'ama. They also discussed the procedures required from the relevant parties to enable the Jordanian-Palestinian Company for Marketing Agricultural Products to take possession of the site and begin implementing the project according to the approved plans and timeline.
The center aims to develop the marketing infrastructure for the agricultural sector and provide integrated services in packaging and storage. This will contribute to improving the quality and preservation of agricultural products, organizing marketing processes, enhancing their access to local and international markets, and increasing the added value of Palestinian agricultural products. This, in turn, will open up broader opportunities for farmers to market their products and boost their incomes.
The meeting also discussed the necessary procedures to address the current situation at the project site and overcome obstacles to commencement. Furthermore, it addressed strengthening coordination between the Ministry of Agriculture, the Governorate, the company, and other relevant parties to expedite procedures and enable the company to begin implementing the project according to the approved objectives and plans.
The Governor of Jericho and Jordan Valley, Dr. Hussein Hamayel, emphasized the importance of the project in supporting the agricultural sector and promoting investment in the Governorate. He expressed the Governorate's readiness to continue coordinating and following up with the Ministry of Agriculture and the company to complete the required procedures. For his part, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Agriculture and Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of the company, Engineer Bader Al-Hawamdeh, stressed the importance of the project in developing the agricultural marketing system and addressing post-production challenges, and enhancing the ability of Palestinian agricultural products to reach markets, stressing the importance of integrating efforts between the three parties to ensure the implementation of the project and achieve a direct and sustainable impact on farmers and the agricultural sector.
