Minister of Agriculture, Professor Rizq Slaimiya, welcomed a delegation from Al-Dhahiriya Municipal Council, headed by Mayor Ali Abbas Shabaan, at his office in the Ministry headquarters. In the presence of the undersecretary of the Ministry, Engineer Bader Al-Hawamdeh. The meeting addressed the needs of the agricultural sector in the city and ways to develop it, as well as discussing several development projects aimed at strengthening farmers' resilience and improving agricultural services in the area.
During the meeting, the mayor outlined the most pressing needs of the agricultural sector in Al-Dhahiriya. These included the construction of rainwater harvesting wells for agricultural purposes, land reclamation and the construction of agricultural roads, the establishment of water reservoirs and modern irrigation networks, the creation of a milk collection station, a factory for producing animal feed from agricultural waste, support for livestock projects, and the implementation of training and capacity-building programs for farmers to enhance agricultural production efficiency and achieve sustainable development. For his part, Minister Slaimiya welcomed the delegation, emphasizing the importance of preparing a comprehensive agricultural plan for Al-Dhahiriya Municipality that identifies the priorities of the agricultural sector. This plan would allow for their inclusion in the Ministry's future plans and programs. He noted that the Ministry of Agriculture, through its Agricultural Assistance Program in its first and second phases, has implemented 370 projects across various governorates of the West Bank. He affirmed that the Ministry will work to address Al-Dhahiriya's needs and prepare the necessary technical plans for implementing priority projects, in accordance with available resources and funding programs.
Slaimiya stressed that the Ministry gives special attention to Al-Dhahiriya region in the livestock sector, given its importance to this sector. He indicated that the Ministry is working to develop facilities and services that facilitate the work of livestock breeders and support the sustainability of livestock production. In this context, he explained that the modern slaughterhouse, which will soon be opened in the city of Yatta, will serve livestock breeders in the surrounding areas and will be a significant boost to the services provided to this sector.
At the end of the meeting, both sides emphasized the importance of strengthening cooperation and coordination between the Ministry of Agriculture and Al-Dhahiriya Municipality. This cooperation will contribute to the implementation of priority projects, improve agricultural infrastructure, enhance the resilience of farmers, and support agricultural development in the region.
