The Ministry of Agriculture, in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), implemented an urgent intervention to support farmers affected in Hebron Governorate by Israeli occupation forces and settler attacks on their agricultural properties. This intervention took place during an official event held at the Al-Aroub Agricultural Station, attended by the Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Agriculture, Engineer Bader Al-Hawamdeh, representing the Minister, as well as representatives from the UNDP and a delegation of partners and donors, including the governments of Austria and Finland. This initiative falls under the "Palestine Interconnection" program – Phase II, a three-year initiative. This intervention is part of national and international efforts to strengthen the resilience of the Palestinian agricultural sector. The visit began with the distribution of olive saplings, water tanks, and plastic sheeting to approximately 180 affected farmers. This step aims to mitigate the effects of the attacks and enhance the farmers' ability to remain on their land. It is part of urgent relief interventions that combine meeting immediate humanitarian needs with strengthening the foundations of sustainable agricultural development.
The tour also included a visit to a beneficiary farmer in the town of Sa'ir, whose olive trees had been uprooted. He was provided with large olive trees, which were immediately planted to compensate for his losses. This initiative is part of a joint effort to bolster the resilience of farmers and livestock breeders in the face of increasing challenges that threaten their livelihoods and stability.
At the final stop, the delegation was briefed on the activities of the "My Initiative – Empowering Marginalized Communities through Investment in Agricultural Business Development" project, specifically the Women's Field School in Sa'ir, which specializes in best agricultural practices for olive tree care. Participants receive specialized training in modern agricultural management and olive product processing. The project includes implementing specialized training programs and providing beneficiaries with the necessary tools and equipment to increase production efficiency and improve quality. "My Initiative" project is implemented in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and with joint funding from the governments of India, Brazil and South Africa through the IBSA Fund, within the framework of South-South cooperation, contributing to strengthening the economic role of marginalized agricultural communities and supporting their resilience, and achieving integration between humanitarian and development interventions within the framework of holistic transformative resilience.
