Ministry of Agriculture: Jenin Agriculture Directorate holds a meeting with partners in the Encroachments Committee to preserve forests and woodlands in the governorate and stop encroachments on them

Jenin Directorate of Agriculture held a meeting at its headquarters today, Tuesday, with partners in the Committee for Encroachments on State Forests and Tree Cutting. This committee includes representatives from the Ministry of Agriculture, Jenin Governorate, the Tourist Police, the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, the Environmental Quality Authority, and the Land Department. The meeting aimed to discuss ways to enhance the protection of forests and reduce recurring encroachments.

Participants discussed all issues related to encroachments on state forests and the resulting environmental and economic damage. A set of recommendations was submitted to the Governor of Jenin Governorate for implementation.

The recommendations included adopting the Al-Saada Forest as a model for joint action, commencing site surveys to identify encroachment locations, and conducting morning and evening monitoring patrols by the Ministry of Agriculture and the Tourist Police, with the participation of security agencies. Security agencies will be provided with continuous updates. It was also agreed to contact the Public Prosecution to inform them of the extent of the losses resulting from the encroachments and their legal consequences, in addition to involving municipalities and mosque preachers in awareness campaigns to explain the environmental and social damage caused by attacks on forests and woodlands.

The recommendations also included monitoring sawmills and woodworking shops in cooperation with customs authorities and security agencies, particularly those that illegally process wood into carpentry materials.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the committee agreed to hold periodic meetings to follow up on the implementation of the recommendations and discuss related developments, in order to ensure the protection of forests and woodlands and the preservation of the governorate's natural resources.
