The South Hebron Agriculture Directorate, through the Extension Services Department and the Dhahiria Agriculture and Veterinary Department, carried out a field day to prune and rejuvenate olive trees for 8 farmers in Dura and graft almonds for 7 farmers in Dhahiria, as part of its ongoing efforts to enhance agricultural extension and raise the efficiency of farmers in managing their orchards.
The activity aimed to familiarize farmers with the proper practices for pruning and rejuvenation of olive trees, in addition to the foundations and methods of grafting almonds, which contributes to improving productivity and maintaining the health of the trees and the quality of the crop. During the field day, the head of the olive department provided a theoretical explanation about the most important steps of pruning and rejuvenation, and the head of the horticulture department gave a practical explanation of methods for grafting almonds, followed by direct practical application in the field with the participation of farmers.
The activity witnessed remarkable interaction from farmers, who expressed their interest in learning modern methods of pruning, planting, and grafting, because of their positive impact on increasing production, improving crop quality, and the sustainability of agriculture.
This activity comes within the plan of the General Administration of Agricultural Extension, which aims to train and qualify farmers and transfer modern agricultural knowledge to them, thus contributing to the development of the agricultural sector and enhancing the resilience of farmers.
