In coordination with Jericho and Jordan Valley Directorate of Agriculture, the committee responsible for amending the technical regulations concerning pesticide residues in dates held a workshop in Jericho and Jordan Valley Governorate. The workshop was attended by His Excellency Dr. Hussein Hamayel, Governor of Jericho and the Jordan Valley, the Director General of the Directorate, Eng. Ashraf Barakat, and committee members Eng. Shadi Darwish and Eng. Fadl Muharib from the General Directorate of Plant Protection and Agricultural Quarantine, Eng. Nariman Odeh from the General Directorate of Agricultural Marketing, and Ms. Ikram Al-Sheikh from the Legal Affairs Unit, in addition to representatives from companies operating in the date sector and a number of farmers.
During the workshop, participants emphasized the priority of the date sector as a strategic agricultural sector, praising the government's efforts to develop and improve it in a way that enhances the quality of Palestinian products and increases their competitiveness in local and international markets. Attendees stressed the importance of adhering to the approved technical regulations and standards, particularly those related to pesticide residues, to ensure consumer safety and that products conform to applicable specifications. In keeping with the principle of transparency and stakeholder engagement, a detailed presentation was given during the workshop to the participants regarding the materials related to the instructions for pesticide residues in dates. At the end of the workshop, the floor was opened for participants to make comments, which will be studied by the committee in preparation for completing the necessary procedures to approve and adopt the instructions in accordance with the rules.
