🔴 Ministry of Agriculture: As part of its efforts to promote animal health, the Ministry of Agriculture receives 500,000 doses of the brucellosis vaccine in preparation for launching a national campaign to vaccinate sheep and goats.

• A grant from the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), funded by the Italian government, worth 1.1 million shekels, to support animal health programs.
• 500,000 doses aimed at immunizing sheep and goat herds according to the national veterinary immunization schedule.
• The national campaign will launch soon to ensure the highest coverage rates and protect livestock and public health.

As part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen the animal health system and protect livestock, the Ministry of Agriculture has successfully secured 500,000 doses of the brucellosis vaccine for small ruminants (sheep and goats). This was achieved through the direct follow-up of the Minister of Agriculture, Professor Riziq Slaimiya, and the ministry staff, within a grant provided by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and funded by the Italian government, amounting to 1.1 million shekels. The Ministry confirms that the General Directorate of Veterinary Services will implement a comprehensive national campaign to vaccinate all breeding sheep flocks with this vaccine in the near future, based on the national veterinary vaccination schedule and approved technical instructions and recommendations. This timing was chosen due to the low pregnancy rate among breeding flocks, ensuring the highest possible coverage rates. It should be noted that the vaccine is not administered to pregnant sheep.

The Ministry explains that this step complements its efforts in implementing animal disease prevention and control programs, aligns with its strategy to enhance food security and protect livestock, and builds upon the success of the national vaccination and tagging campaign in Masafer Yatta and the Northern Jordan Valley, which exceeded 120,000 vaccinations and 120,000 taggings. This reflects the Ministry's readiness and capacity to implement large-scale national campaigns to serve livestock breeders.

The Ministry points out that brucellosis is a zoonotic disease that can be transmitted from animals to humans through the consumption of untreated milk and dairy products. This makes vaccination one of the most important preventive measures to protect public health, reduce economic losses, and preserve livestock. The Ministry of Agriculture urges livestock breeders to fully cooperate with its veterinary teams and adhere to the instructions and technical guidelines that will be issued by the General Directorate of Veterinary Services before the campaign begins. This cooperation will ensure the campaign's success and the achievement of its national goals in protecting livestock and enhancing food security.

The Ministry also affirms its continued commitment to working with its local and international partners to develop veterinary services, provide vaccines and veterinary supplies, and implement immunization and prevention programs according to the highest technical standards. This will strengthen the resilience of livestock breeders and the sustainability of the Palestinian agricultural sector.
