Under the supervision and participation of Yatta Agriculture Directorate, and funded by the Italian Cooperation, the Ma’an Development Center and Oxfam—in partnership with Masafer Yatta Village Council—carried out an emergency relief intervention. This initiative supported 56 farmers in the areas of Al-Markaz, Al-Majaz, Al-Fakhit, and Al-Taban, as part of the "Provision of Emergency Humanitarian Assistance in the Southern West Bank" project.
The intervention involved the distribution of 112 large bales of fodder (weighing 450 kg each) to support farmers and livestock breeders. The aim was to meet their livestock's basic needs and help them sustain their livelihoods and agricultural activities amidst the difficult humanitarian and economic conditions they face.
This intervention comes at a time when farmers and herders in Masafer Yatta are enduring harsh conditions caused by ongoing attacks from settler groups and actions by the occupation army. These challenges include restrictions on farmers and threats to their livelihoods and access to their lands and pastures, making the provision of fodder and essential livestock supplies a critical necessity for their survival and steadfastness on their land.
The initiative highlights the importance of partnership and collaboration among the Ministry of Agriculture, local and international organizations, and donor agencies in addressing farmers' urgent needs, protecting livestock, and mitigating the impact of attacks and coercive conditions. Such efforts strengthen the farmers' ability to persevere and remain committed to their land and livelihoods. The Ministry of Agriculture continues to support farmers and livestock breeders in the most severely affected areas, directing emergency agricultural and humanitarian interventions toward the most vulnerable groups. This effort stems from its responsibility to protect the agricultural sector and bolster the resilience and steadfastness of farmers on their land, recognizing agriculture as a fundamental pillar of national resilience and the protection of both the land and the people.
