Ministry of Agriculture: In cooperation with FAO, holds an advanced workshop on integrated pest management of cucumbers, with the participation of 20 pioneering farmers from Jenin, Nablus and Tubas.

The General Directorate of Plant Protection and Agricultural Quarantine at the Ministry of Agriculture, in cooperation with Jenin Directorate of Agriculture and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), organized an advanced workshop entitled "Major Pests of Cucumber Crops and Integrated Pest Management" at the Al-Saleh Institute of the National Center for Agricultural Research. Twenty leading cucumber farmers from Jenin, Nablus, and Tubas governorates participated.

The workshop aimed to enhance farmers' knowledge of the most important pests affecting cucumber crops and to implement the principles of integrated pest management. This will contribute to reducing the use of chemical pesticides and their residues, and improving the quality of agricultural production according to approved specifications and standards, which will positively impact product safety and market competitiveness.

The workshop also included participants from the National Center for Agricultural Research. The workshop was opened by the Director General of Jenin Agriculture Directorate, Engineer Basem Hammad, who emphasized the importance of partnership and coordination between the Ministry of Agriculture and institutions working in the agricultural sector to advance agricultural production and enhance its sustainability. He stressed that adopting integrated pest management practices contributes to preserving natural resources and the environment, producing safe food, reducing pesticide residues, and improving the quality of agricultural products, thus facilitating their marketing and strengthening farmers' resilience.

This workshop is part of the efforts of the Ministry of Agriculture and its partners to develop farmers' capabilities, disseminate sound agricultural practices, and promote the production of safe and high-quality crops, thereby supporting the sustainability of the agricultural sector and increasing production efficiency in the targeted governorates.
