The Higher Committee for Estimating Date Production for the 2026 Agricultural Season held its first meeting at the Ministry of Agriculture headquarters in Ramallah. The meeting was chaired by Engineer Ashraf Barakat and attended by committee members representing relevant entities. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss mechanisms for estimating date production for the current season, ensuring data accuracy and strengthening governance within the date sector.
Representatives from Jericho and Jordan Valley Governorate, the Customs Police, the General Audit Bureau, the Preventive Security Service, the General Intelligence Service, the Farmers' Union, and the Cooperative Society of Date Palm Farmers participated in the meeting, reflecting the partnership and integration among various official and non-governmental institutions involved in the date sector.
The committee discussed the implementation mechanism for estimating date production for the 2026 season and the mechanisms for field coordination among participating entities. This coordination aims to provide accurate and reliable data on production volume, supporting planning and decision-making processes, and enhancing the organization and marketing of the date crop. The participants stressed the importance of continuing the partnership and coordination between the Ministry of Agriculture and partner institutions, given its role in strengthening the governance of the date sector and developing joint work mechanisms, in a way that serves farmers and contributes to the development of this vital sector, which is one of the most prominent agricultural sectors in Jericho and the Jordan Valley and Palestine in general.
