Jerusalem: October 19, 2026

On Monday, the local committee for the National Olive Harvest Campaign in Jerusalem, in cooperation with Jerusalem Governorate and with support from Bayt Mal Al-Quds Al-Sharif Agency, held the campaign’s second event in the town of Abu Dis, east of occupied Jerusalem. The event, which saw the participation of partner institutions from the national campaign committee, aimed to support Jerusalemite farmers, bolster their steadfastness, and strengthen their attachment to their land in the face of attacks targeting agricultural property and olive trees.

The event was organized in Abu Dis—a town situated in a "friction zone" within the Jerusalem Governorate—to underscore the importance of assisting farmers in vulnerable areas, particularly during the olive harvest season. This season serves as a primary source of livelihood for many Jerusalemite families and is deeply intertwined with Palestinian national and historical identity.

The campaign in Jerusalem Governorate is carried out through a partnership between the Ministry of Agriculture, Jerusalem Governorate, Bayt Mal Al-Quds Al-Sharif Agency, and the Commission Against the Wall and Settlements. It is supported by security agencies—including the Police, Civil Defense, National Security, and the Political Guidance Commission—as well as the Directorates of Local Government and municipalities in East Jerusalem.

The campaign also benefits from the participation and support of various international and local organizations, including the Palestine Red Crescent Society, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), and the Cultural Forum in Beit Anan, alongside other local institutions and community groups. This broad involvement highlights the importance of integrating national, societal, and international efforts to support farmers and protect their land. The second event of the national olive harvest campaign is part of broader national and community-led efforts aimed at fostering values of cooperation and solidarity. It seeks to unify the work of official, civil, and international institutions to support farmers in Jerusalem, protect their lands and olive trees, and bolster their resilience in the face of attacks and harassment targeting their agricultural land and livelihoods.
