The Higher Committee for the "Olive 2026" National Olive Harvest Campaign held its periodic expanded meeting today, Wednesday. Chaired by the Ministry of Agriculture and attended by representatives from government institutions, civil society organizations, local and international partners. The meeting aimed to review final preparations and readiness for the launch of the olive harvest season, as well as to establish the necessary arrangements to support farmers and safeguard the harvest.
The meeting reviewed the key components of the campaign's comprehensive action plan, focusing on field response, logistical support, and the provision and distribution of necessary equipment and supplies to assist farmers—particularly those in border areas, "hotspots," lands behind the Separation Wall, and areas near settlements—thereby enhancing their ability to access their land and harvest their crops safely.
The Committee also discussed plans developed by sub-committees and local committees across various governorates—under the leadership of the governors—covering the mobilization of field teams, the distribution of support equipment, and the organization of harvesting and pressing operations according to established schedules.
Additionally, plans were discussed for organizing volunteer campaigns involving national institutions to provide farmers with the necessary manpower across different regions. The committee also examined advocacy and protection strategies, including the launch of media and international campaigns to highlight the violations faced by farmers, the mobilization of international supporters and human rights organizations for field presence and support for farming families, and the intensification of coordination among government institutions, civil society organizations, local and international partners.
During the meeting, an agreement was reached to unify the media narrative, campaign objectives, and associated operational pathways. This aims to ensure the integration of national efforts—directing them toward providing maximum protection and support for farmers, safeguarding Palestinian assets, and enabling farmers to access their lands and harvest their olives.
The Higher Committee emphasized that the olive season represents a Palestinian symbol and a deeply rooted national heritage, eagerly awaited by Palestinian farmers year after year. It underscored that the priority for the Ministry of Agriculture and its partners is to support farmers, ensure their access to their lands, enable them to harvest their crops with dignity and safety, and strengthen their resilience and steadfastness on their land.
