The Ministry of Agriculture concluded its third virtual training session on developing and operating a date palm irrigation scheduling application. This training is part of the Ministry's efforts to promote the use of modern technology in water resource management and completes the first phase of the training program.
The training was conducted in cooperation with Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and in partnership with the International Water Management Institute. A team of specialists and technicians from the Palestinian Ministry of Agriculture and the Palestinian Water Authority, tasked with developing and operating the application, participated.
The training sessions covered several technical topics, including the theoretical background of irrigation scheduling, the forecasting component for determining water needs, the system's architecture, data processing mechanisms, and the application's operational performance. The training also included practical exercises and applications, along with technical discussions and recommendations to enhance the application's efficiency and improve the performance of the digital system. This will support the scientific and effective management of smart irrigation for date palms.
Participants emphasized that this training represents a significant step towards digitizing water resource management in Palestine and reflects the Ministry of Agriculture's commitment to integrating modern technology into sustainable agricultural practices. This integration will contribute to increased water use efficiency and enhanced date palm productivity.
The implementation of this program comes as part of a series of initiatives implemented by the Ministry to promote digital innovation and the transfer of modern technology in the Palestinian agricultural sector, in order to support the resilience of farmers in the face of water scarcity challenges.
