The Ministry of Agriculture, represented by the North Hebron Agriculture Directorate, conducted an interactive extension session with 13 female farmers participating in the Farmer Field School in Sa'ir area. The session focused on the importance of supplementary irrigation for olive trees—highlighting its role in enhancing the trees' resilience against drought and improving productivity—as part of the "Mubadarati" (My Initiative) project (specifically the olive and Farmer Field School component), implemented by the Ministry of Agriculture with funding from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
Engineer Mai Arar led the session, addressing the water requirements of olive trees and the importance of determining the timing and volume of supplementary irrigation based on agricultural conditions and tree needs. She also outlined technical practices that contribute to optimal water use and improved water resource management efficiency.
The session transitioned from theory to practical application in the field, where the farmers applied the guidelines regarding supplementary irrigation. This hands-on experience enhanced their ability to manage olive tree needs during drought periods and improved their water-use efficiency.
This activity is part of the efforts by the Ministry of Agriculture and the North Hebron Agriculture Directorate to strengthen applied agricultural extension and empower farmers to adopt more efficient and sustainable agricultural practices. These efforts aim to bolster farmer resilience, improve olive tree productivity, and enhance water-use efficiency amidst current climatic challenges and agricultural conditions.
