Ministry of Agriculture: North Hebron Agriculture Directorate and FAO sign two agreements to support agricultural investment worth 307,000 shekels within the (MAP II) program

The North Hebron Directorate of Agriculture, in cooperation with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), signed two agreements to support agricultural investment in northern Hebron under the Multi-Donor Agricultural Business Program (MAP II). The program aims to promote market-oriented investments and innovations to develop a sustainable agricultural and food system in the West Bank.

The total value of the two agreements is approximately 307,000 shekels as a grant, in addition to a contribution of 413,300 shekels from beneficiary farmers. The projects include the installation of shading structures for a 20-dunum grape and almond farm to improve fruit production, as well as the establishment of a production line for olive pomace briquettes from olive mills. These initiatives aim to strengthen agricultural value chains, increase local product value, create job opportunities, and improve farmers’ household incomes.

So far, the number of beneficiaries under the MAP II program in northern Hebron has reached five, as part of ongoing efforts to expand support and maximize the developmental impact of agricultural projects.

The agreements were signed at the Hebron Governorate office (northern branch), in the presence of Eng. Osama Jarar, Director General of the North Hebron Agriculture Directorate; Mr. Musa Haroun, Assistant Governor of Hebron; Eng. Mahmoud Al-Maghrebi, project coordinator and head of the technical department; and Eng. Sayel Al-Attawneh, FAO representative.

Eng. Jarar emphasized that the agreements come amid challenging conditions in the governorate, highlighting the need to intensify efforts to strengthen farmers’ resilience, especially in marginalized areas. He stressed that investment in land is a key pillar for resilience and that the ministry continues to support farmers and develop their projects to ensure the sustainability of the agricultural sector.

He also praised the role of the Ministry of Agriculture and FAO in enabling farmers to remain on their land, noting the importance of agricultural development in supporting the local economy and strengthening food security.

These agreements are implemented under two projects stemming from an FAO initiative in cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture. MAP II is funded by the governments of Denmark, Switzerland, Spain, and the European Union, with parallel funding from the Government of Italy, under the project “Promoting Innovative and Sustainable Market-Oriented Investments in the Agrifood Sector in the West Bank.”
