Ministry of Agriculture: Jenin Agriculture and the FAO sign seven agreements to support agricultural investment in Faqou’a, Jenin, Anza, Jaba’, Mithlon and Ya’bad within the (MAP II) program with a total value of (1,404,474) shekels

The Ministry of Agriculture, in cooperation with the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), signed seven agreements to support agricultural investment in Jenin Governorate. These agreements fall under the Multi-Donor Agricultural Business Program – Phase II (MAP II), which aims to promote market-oriented investments and innovations, contributing to the development of a sustainable agricultural and food system in the West Bank.

The total value of the agreements is approximately 1,404,474 NIS. They cover the implementation of a range of diverse agricultural projects in several towns and villages within the governorate, including Faqqu'a, Jenin, Anza, Jaba', Mithalon, and Ya'bad. The projects encompass solar energy, climate-resilient crop production, compost production, and cut rose cultivation. They also include the provision of agricultural tools and the construction of enclosed agricultural sheds, thereby strengthening agricultural value chains and increasing the added value of local products.

These projects will also contribute to supporting employment opportunities, improving the income of farming families, and enhancing the sustainability of agricultural production in the targeted areas. The agreements were signed at the Jenin Governorate headquarters, under the auspices of Governor Kamal Abu al-Rub, and in the presence of the Director General of the Jenin Agriculture Directorate, Engineer Omar Bisharat, along with directors and staff from the directorate, FAO Field Support Specialist Engineer Abdul Qader Abadi, Jenin Chamber of Commerce Vice President Mustafa Qunairi, and the farmers benefiting from the project.

Engineer Bisharat emphasized that the signing of these agreements comes at a critical and challenging time for the governorate, necessitating intensified efforts and the strengthening of farmers' resilience, particularly in marginalized areas. He stressed that investing in the land is a fundamental pillar of stability and survival, and affirmed the Ministry's continued support for farmers and the development of their projects to ensure the sustainability of the agricultural sector.

For his part, Governor Kamal Abu al-Rub underscored the importance of these projects in supporting farmers and bolstering their resilience, as well as improving agricultural investment, especially given the challenges facing the agricultural sector. He commended the role of the Ministry of Agriculture and the FAO in enabling farmers to remain on their land, and highlighted the vital importance of the agricultural sector in supporting the local economy and enhancing food security. These agreements are implemented within the framework of the (MAP II) program implemented by the FAO in cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture, with funding from the governments of Denmark, the European Union, Spain and Switzerland, in addition to parallel funding from the Italian government, with the aim of promoting innovative and sustainable market-oriented investments in the agri-food sector in the West Bank.
