The Ministry of Agriculture’s South Hebron Directorate signed agreements to rehabilitate agricultural wells for 43 beneficiaries, funded by GIZ, with agricultural relief projects worth around 210,000 shekels in Arab al-Ramadin and Arab al-Frijat

Hebron – April 21, 2026:

South of Hebron Agriculture Directorate , in cooperation with the Agricultural Development Association (Agricultural Relief), the German Agency for International Development (GIZ), and Al-Ramadin Municipality, signed agreements to rehabilitate agricultural wells. This initiative falls under the "Sustainable Water Resources Management to Support Agriculture in South Hebron" project, funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). The project targets Arab Al-Ramadin and Arab Al-Frijat areas in the southern part of the governorate.

The agreements include the rehabilitation of rainwater harvesting wells for 43 sheep farmers, at a cost of approximately 210,000 shekels. The aim is to support the resilience of farmers and livestock breeders, enhance the efficient use of natural resources, and build the capacity of the local community through sustainable solutions, most notably rainwater harvesting and greywater reuse as supplementary alternatives to traditional water sources. The Director General of the South Hebron Agriculture Directorate, Engineer Khalil Abu Aqifan, affirmed that the signing of these agreements comes amidst the delicate circumstances the governorate is experiencing, necessitating intensified efforts to bolster the resilience of farmers, particularly in marginalized areas. He pointed out that enabling farmers to remain on their land is a fundamental pillar for strengthening stability and steadfastness, emphasizing the Ministry of Agriculture's continued support for the agricultural sector and the development of projects to ensure its sustainability.

This activity falls within the framework of implementing water security initiatives aimed at enhancing farmers' ability to confront water scarcity challenges. This is achieved through the rehabilitation of rainwater harvesting wells for use in watering sheep, in addition to establishing models for greywater reuse in home gardening, thereby promoting self-reliance and improving the living conditions of rural families.

The agreements were signed in the presence of the Director of the Al-Dhahiriya Agriculture and Veterinary Department, Engineer Mahmoud Al-Zeer; the Director of the Agricultural Relief Office, Engineer Fajr Al-Atawneh; the Project Coordinator, Engineer Muhammad Alqam; and the Director of Al-Ramadin Municipality, Engineer Anis Al-Zagharna.
