The South Hebron Agriculture Department and UNDP, with IBSA Fund support, provide sheep management training to 32 farmers in Al-Sarra as part of “My Initiative” project.

South of Hebron Agriculture Directorate, represented by the Animal Production and Veterinary Services Department, conducted the seventh training session in its "Field Schools" series, part of "My Initiative" project. The session targeted 32 sheep farmers in Al-Sarra area and surrounding communities in southern Hebron Governorate.

The session saw active participation from the beneficiary farmers. Veterinarian Dr. Muhammad Jawadeh provided specialized technical training on parasitic diseases prevalent during the summer months, methods of prevention, and ways to mitigate their impact on flock health. He also emphasized the importance of proper nutritional management for ewes throughout their various physiological stages to ensure improved productivity and the health of newborns.

For his part, the Head of the Animal Production Department, Engineer Ahmad Tabisha, stressed the importance of balanced nutrition in reducing abortion problems and improving production efficiency. He emphasized the necessity of adhering to national vaccination programs against epidemic diseases, particularly brucellosis and foot-and-mouth disease, given their crucial role in protecting livestock and reducing newborn mortality rates. He noted that these training sessions are part of the Ministry of Agriculture's efforts to develop livestock breeders' skills and enhance their technical knowledge, which will positively impact the sustainability of their agricultural projects and improve their income levels.

At the conclusion of the meeting, participants expressed their appreciation for these field extension activities, emphasizing the importance of acquiring modern knowledge and techniques in sheep breeding. They also called for the continued provision of vaccines and veterinary services that contribute to protecting their flocks and enhancing production stability.

These activities are being implemented within the framework of "My Initiative – Empowering Marginalized Communities through Investment in Agricultural Business Development" project, implemented by the Palestinian Ministry of Agriculture in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and with support from the International Bank for Agricultural Development (IBSA), which includes India, Brazil, and South Africa. The project aims to promote sustainable rural development and build the technical capacities of farmers in the targeted areas.
