Bethlehem Directorate of Agriculture conducted a specialized workshop on producing and utilizing organic fertilizer (compost) in home gardens. The workshop targeted 20 housewives from the village of Umm Salmuna, south of the governorate, as part of the Ministry of Agriculture's efforts to empower rural women, enhance household food security, and promote sustainable agricultural practices.

The workshop was presented by engineers Mu'taz Awad and Fida' Zawahra. It included a practical session on converting kitchen and garden waste into high-quality organic fertilizer, along with technical guidelines on controlling humidity and aeration to ensure successful aerobic fermentation and the production of high-quality organic fertilizer.

The workshop also addressed the economic and environmental impact of using organic fertilizer, including reducing home agricultural production costs, improving soil fertility, contributing to the production of healthy and safe food, and reducing reliance on chemical fertilizers, which positively impacts both the environment and family health. At the end of the workshop, a discussion was opened with the participants, during which their inquiries regarding grape crop pests and the most important agricultural practices to be followed during this period were answered, within the framework of the Ministry of Agriculture’s keenness to provide technical guidance to farmers and enhance the efficiency of agricultural production.
