Jericho and Jordan Valley Agriculture Directorate held a meeting today, Tuesday, with farmers selected to benefit from the second phase of the agricultural assistance program—funded by the European Union and implemented by the Ministry of Agriculture. The meeting took place at the Governorate headquarters under the patronage and in the presence of the Governor of Jericho and the Jordan Valley, Mr. Hussein Hamayel.
Participants included the Director General of the Jericho and Jordan Valley Agriculture Directorate, Eng. Ashraf Barakat; the Director of the Services Department, Eng. Hashem Sawafta; the Director of the European Program at the Ministry of Agriculture, Ms. Asmahan Gharouf; and the Head of the Associations and NGOs Department, Ms. Amal Al-Sweiti, alongside the farmers selected for the program.
The meeting reviewed the implementation procedures for the program's second phase, mechanisms for accessing agricultural grants, eligibility criteria, grant disbursement processes, and the documentation required to complete application files. It also covered administrative and legal procedures and their sequence, as well as a discussion on proposed agricultural projects and how to utilize the support to develop them. Governor Hamayel emphasized the importance of continuing agricultural support and assistance programs, given their role in backing farmers and bolstering their resilience and capacity to sustain agricultural work and production. He stressed the need to direct these grants toward developing agricultural projects and improving both output and farmers' income sources, thereby contributing to land preservation and the continuity of agricultural investment.
Twenty-one farmers in the Jericho and Jordan Valley Governorate are benefiting from the program's second phase. The projects have a total value of €277,000 (approximately 957,000 NIS ) and aim to support and develop agricultural ventures, enhance production capabilities, improve income sources, and enable farmers to continue their agricultural activities and preserve their land.
Jericho and Jordan Valley Directorate of Agriculture and the European program team underscored the importance of adhering to all required requirements, procedures, and administrative and legal protocols.
