The Ministry of Agriculture continues to expand the agricultural insurance with the support of the European Union

The Ministry of Agriculture, in partnership with Al Baraka Islamic Insurance Company, continues to conduct intensive field visits across the governorates of Palestine as part of its ongoing efforts to develop the agricultural insurance system and enhance risk management tools in the Palestinian agricultural sector. This initiative falls under the "Building Agricultural Insurance Systems and Services in Palestine" project, funded by the European Union and implemented by Oxfam and the Palestinian Center for Economic and Social Development on behalf of the Ministry of Agriculture.

The current phase of the program aims to insure broiler chickens grown in closed systems, tomatoes grown in greenhouses, and grapes grown in open fields. The goal is to provide farmers with genuine protection against climate fluctuations, diseases, and unforeseen risks that threaten the stability of agricultural production and the income of families working in this sector.

The Ministry of Agriculture emphasizes that the Palestinian government and the European Union's contribution of 60% of the insurance premiums reflects a national commitment and a serious international partnership to support Palestinian farmers, alleviate their financial burdens, and strengthen their economic resilience in light of the increasing challenges facing the agricultural sector. By the end of January 2026, total premiums underwritten under the project reached approximately 1.74 million NIS , insuring 189 tomato farms with a total area of ​​428 dunams, in addition to insuring 79 broiler poultry farms covering approximately 1.63 million birds. Furthermore, 113 field visits were conducted by teams from the General Directorate of Agricultural Insurance and employees of Al-Baraka Insurance Company in the governorates of Nablus, Tubas, Qalqilya, Salfit, Jenin, Tulkarm, Hebron, and Bethlehem, as part of direct engagement with farmers and the provision of subscription and awareness services in the field.

The Ministry continues its efforts to expand the program and enhance its reach, stemming from its national responsibility to establish a sustainable agricultural insurance system that contributes to production stability, supports agricultural development, and strengthens farmers' ability to sustain and grow.
