The Ministry of Agriculture provided urgent aid today, Thursday, to those affected by settler attacks in Deir Shams and Al-Tayaran communities, east of Al-Dhahiriya city. This aid, part of the Ministry's emergency response program, included 14 large bales of straw weighing 450 kg each, 7 water tanks (5 with a capacity of 5 cubic meters and 2 with a capacity of 1.5 cubic meters), and 10 tarpaulins. The aim is to mitigate the effects of the attacks, support farmers and livestock breeders, secure their basic needs, and strengthen their resilience and ability to remain on their land.
During a field visit by the Minister of Agriculture, Professor Rizq Slaimiya, accompanied by the Governor of Hebron Governorate, Mr. Khaled Dudin, to Deir Shams and Al-Tayaran communities. The purpose of the visit was to assess the conditions of farmers and livestock breeders and the extent of the damage and losses resulting from settler attacks. The Minister and the Governor listened to testimonies from residents about the attacks they had suffered, which targeted their property and livelihoods, including the theft of large numbers of sheep. These attacks have caused significant financial and economic hardship, threatening their ability to remain in the area.
The Minister and the Governor were accompanied on the tour by the Mayor of Al-Dhahiriya, Engineer Ali Abbas Al-Awaisa; the Mayor of As-Samu, Mr. Khalil Abu Awad; the Secretary of the Fateh Movement in southern Hebron, Mr. Kamal Jabarin; the Director of the Southern Hebron Liaison Office, Mr. Alaa Qatouf; and a number of representatives from relevant ministries and institutions. The visit focused on assessing the immediate needs of the residents and monitoring their situation amidst the difficult circumstances facing the region. Minister of Agriculture Professor Rizq Slaimiya affirmed that the Ministry, under the directives of the Palestinian leadership, is continuing to implement its emergency response program to support farmers and livestock breeders affected by settler attacks. He emphasized that strengthening their resilience, protecting them, and supporting them in the targeted areas is a national and agricultural priority. Slaimiya noted that the Ministry continues to assess the damage and needs in the various affected areas and is working to provide as much support as possible, in coordination with the governorates, municipalities, and relevant authorities.
For his part, Hebron Governor Khaled Doudin affirmed that the governorate is continuously monitoring the situation of citizens in the areas subjected to attacks. He commended the Ministry of Agriculture's efforts in responding promptly to the needs of farmers and livestock breeders and stressed the importance of continued coordination between the Ministry, the governorate, local authorities, and relevant institutions to bolster the resilience of citizens and their steadfastness on their land in the face of attacks targeting their livelihoods and sources of income.
