Jenin: September 12, 2026
Jenin Directorate of Agriculture inaugurated (Grapes of Jenin Festival) today, Saturday, September 12, 2026. The event was held under the patronage of the Minister of Agriculture, Professor Rizq Slaimiya; the Governor of Jenin, Mr. Kamal Abu Al-Rub; and the Head of the Jenin Chamber of Commerce. It was organized in cooperation with the Chamber of Commerce and the Grape Producers Association, with support from the German development agency (GIZ), aiming to support local production, enhance marketing opportunities, and open new horizons for grape farmers.
The opening ceremony was attended by the Director General of Jenin Directorate of Agriculture, Engineer Basem Hammad (representing the Minister); heads of agricultural departments in the governorate; the Director of Agricultural Exhibitions and Festivals at the Ministry of Agriculture; the Deputy Governor of Jenin; the Head of the Chamber of Commerce; Engineer Amin Al-Hajj (representing the German development agency); the President and Director of Jenin Grape Producers Association; and a number of farmers and stakeholders in the agricultural sector.
Engineer Basem Hammad emphasized the importance of organizing such marketing events, particularly given the difficult circumstances Jenin Governorate is facing, including the ongoing attacks by the occupation and settlers. He noted that the festival serves as a vital platform to highlight and promote local produce and to showcase the quality of Palestinian grapes to the public.
Hammad explained that organizing these events helps shorten the marketing chain between producer and consumer, thereby facilitating fair prices for both farmers and citizens, and strengthening the ability of Palestinian farmers to remain on their land and continue production despite the challenges. For his part, the Deputy Governor of Jenin, Mr. Ahmed Al-Qassam, commended the efforts of the Ministry of Agriculture and its partners in organizing the festival. He emphasized the importance of bolstering the resilience of farmers and supporting them—particularly given the difficult circumstances the governorate is facing. Meanwhile, the head of the Chamber of Commerce stressed the need to unify the efforts of all partners to support local produce, provide Palestinian farmers with necessary resources, and enhance their access to markets.
Separately, the representative of German Cooperation, Engineer Amin Al-Hajj, acknowledged the role played by the Ministry of Agriculture and its partners in organizing the festival. He affirmed German Cooperation's readiness to continue providing support for initiatives that strengthen the resilience of Palestinian farmers, develop the agricultural sector, and create new marketing opportunities for local products.
The festival’s marketing activities will run for three days, featuring the display and sale of grapes alongside various rural products. This event offers citizens an opportunity to appreciate the quality of local agricultural produce, while contributing to a stronger market presence for Palestinian products and opening new marketing horizons for the grape farmers.
