Ministry of Agriculture: The Higher Agricultural Emergency Committee in Gaza, in cooperation with the FAO, organize a workshop to promote "Resilience and Sovereignty Agriculture"

The Ministry of Agriculture, represented by the Higher Agricultural Emergency Committee, in cooperation with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), held a specialized workshop in Gaza City on Sunday. This workshop was in line with the strategic directions outlined in the speech of the Minister of Agriculture, Professor Riziq Slaimiya, who called for a shift towards "resilience and sovereignty agriculture" as a fundamental approach to confronting current challenges.

The workshop, held at the PalTrade headquarters on Al-Wahda Street, brought together a number of agricultural experts, farmers, and representatives of relevant institutions. Its aim was to discuss green and sustainable alternatives to enhance agricultural production under the conditions of the blockade and resource scarcity.

The workshop focused on promoting the application of biological and integrated pest management using safe materials, expanding the use of organic and green fertilizers as an alternative to imported chemical inputs, and reviewing mechanisms for rehabilitating damaged agricultural lands and increasing their productivity. The participants affirmed that these efforts are a practical implementation of the Ministry of Agriculture's vision to reduce external dependence and enhance reliance on local resources by supporting small and medium-sized agricultural systems and empowering farmers to adopt more sustainable and resilient farming practices.

The workshop emphasized the importance of integrating governmental and international efforts and activating the role of agricultural extension and knowledge transfer to contribute to building a resilient agricultural system capable of achieving a minimum level of food security.

At the conclusion of its proceedings, the workshop recommended expanding the scope of these interventions and promoting investment in low-cost agricultural practices, in line with the national drive towards achieving food sovereignty amidst current challenges.

The Higher Agricultural Emergency Committee at the Ministry of Agriculture expressed its gratitude to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) for its continued support and efforts in strengthening the resilience of the agricultural sector through organizing this specialized workshop and providing technical expertise in the areas of biological control and organic fertilization.
