The Higher Agricultural Emergency Committee in the southern governorates held a meeting with Mr. Amjad Al-Shawa, Director of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Gaza Strip. The committee conveyed the congratulations of the Minister of Agriculture, Professor Riziq Slaimiya, on assuming his duties, wishing him success in his new role.
During the meeting, the committee reviewed the current state of the agricultural sector in Gaza Strip, highlighting the most pressing challenges facing farmers and the urgent needs for rehabilitating the sector and restoring its productive capacity. They also discussed priorities for intervention in the coming phase, aiming to enhance food security and support early recovery efforts.
The committee emphasized the importance of the UNDP playing a greater role in funding and implementing projects to rehabilitate the agricultural sector, support farmers, and rebuild agricultural infrastructure. This will strengthen the sector's resilience and contribute to achieving recovery and sustainable development.
For his part, Mr. Amjad Al-Shawa expressed his appreciation for this visit, stressing the United Nations Development Programme’s (UNDP) keenness to enhance cooperation and coordination with the Ministry of Agriculture, and to support efforts aimed at advancing the agricultural sector and responding to its priorities during the next stage.
