As part of its ongoing efforts to promote rural development and build the capacities of farmers and women in the food processing industry, the Ministry of Agriculture, in partnership with Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), implemented a series of extension and field activities in the governorates of Jerusalem, Hebron, and Qalqilya, within the framework of the EVAP III project.
In Jerusalem Governorate, the Extension Services Department conducted a field meeting with the Al-Judeira Women's Agro-Food Processing Group in the town of Al-Judeira. Twenty female farmers involved in post-harvest operations participated in the meeting, which included an explanation of the work mechanism within the EVAP extension group and the objectives of the field visit to promote the exchange of experiences and learn about successful practices, thereby contributing to the empowerment of rural women and building their technical and administrative capacities.
In Hebron Governorate, Hebron Directorate of Agriculture conducted a specialized workshop targeting a group of female farmers from Beit Kahil Food Processing Center. A detailed explanation of step (2-1) of the project was presented, focusing on planning and implementing awareness-raising exchange visits within the governorate. The aim was to learn about successful models in food processing and to familiarize participants with modern technologies and advanced production methods. Participants emphasized the importance of direct, practical learning in developing home-based and cooperative projects, improving quality, packaging, marketing, and food safety standards.
Meanwhile, in Qalqilya Governorate, the Agricultural Extension Department conducted an extension visit to the town of Al-Nasariya in Nablus Governorate. Eighteen fruit tree farmers from behind the separation wall participated. The visit included model farms for grapes, figs, and citrus fruits, as well as a packing facility. Participants learned about best agricultural practices and technical processes used to achieve high-quality production and increased profitability. The visit concluded with a discussion and feedback session to enhance knowledge transfer and the exchange of experiences, with the participation of staff from the Central Jordan Valley Directorate of Agriculture. EVAP project is one of the agricultural extension programs implemented by the Ministry of Agriculture in cooperation with JICA. It aims to develop agricultural production, improve resource management, and enhance the resilience of farmers, in addition to supporting and empowering rural women. The Ministry of Agriculture affirms that these activities fall within its vision to promote the exchange of experiences, transfer knowledge, and open new horizons for farmers to adopt modern practices that contribute to the development of their projects and enhance the sustainability of the Palestinian agricultural sector.
