The local committee for the 2026 olive harvest campaign in Qalqilya Governorate—chaired by Governor Hussam Abu Hamda—met today at his office to discuss arrangements and preparations for the season. This meeting took place within the framework of the national plan launched by the Ministry of Agriculture in partnership with governorates, the Commission Against the Wall and Settlements, the Palestinian Red Crescent, the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, the security institutions, the Civil Defense, agricultural and civil institutions, unions, and associations—including the Agricultural Engineers Syndicate—alongside various international institutions and partner entities.
Participants in the meeting included the Director General of Qalqilya Agriculture Directorate, Engineer Ahmed Eid, and his staff; the Director General of Planning and Development, Saed Muwafi; Colonel Omar Kitana, Director of Joint Operations; and representatives from the security establishment and Civil Affairs. Also in attendance were representatives from Al-Quds Open University, the Directorate of Education, the Palestinian Agricultural Relief Committees (PARC), the Red Crescent, and the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports.
Governor Hussam Abu Hamda emphasized the importance of the olive season and the national, economic, and social value it holds for the Palestinian people. He commended the efforts of the Ministry of Agriculture and partner institutions in supporting farmers during the season, stressing that the success of the olive harvest requires the concerted and integrated efforts of both official bodies and the public.
For his part, Engineer Ahmed Eid outlined the campaign’s arrangements and operational mechanisms. The goal is to unify the efforts of participating teams and coordinate fieldwork to ensure rapid response, clearly define priorities and target areas, and enhance the readiness of all participating entities throughout the olive harvest season. These preparations are part of the national plan for the 2026 olive harvest campaign—implemented by the Ministry of Agriculture in collaboration with its partners—which aims to enhance the protection of farmers and their lands, support their resilience, ensure the season's success, and preserve the standing of the olive sector as a key component of Palestinian agriculture and economy.
