Minister of Agriculture Professor Rizq Slaimiya participated in the FAO Global Conference on One Health in Agrifood Systems, held in Rome from September 21 to 24, 2026.
During his visit to Rome, the Minister held meetings with senior FAO officials to discuss the status and needs of the Palestinian agricultural sector. Discussions focused on ways to bolster international support for farmers and the livestock sector—including the continued provision of vaccines (specifically against foot-and-mouth disease and brucellosis), the supply of animal feed, and the strengthening of interventions that support farmer resilience.
The Minister also discussed mobilizing resources and funding for the Palestinian Agricultural Investment Program (MAP3) and a project to enhance climate adaptation within fruit tree value chains; these initiatives aim to support investment in the agricultural sector and strengthen its capacity to withstand crises and climate change.
He emphasized that "One Health" approach is a fundamental pathway to enhancing food security through the integration of human, animal, plant, soil, water, and environmental health.
In a related context, the Ministry of Agriculture delegation participated in meetings of the Pandemic Fund, where they reviewed activities and achievements in Palestine regarding public and animal health, and discussed future plans and proposals to further develop the project and ensure the sustainability of its activities. The Minister was accompanied at the conference by Dr. Iyad Al-Adra, Director General of Veterinary Services and Animal Health, who participated in specialized technical sessions, while Dr. Azzam Saleh, Acting Head of the FAO Office in Palestine, also took part in the proceedings.
This participation aligns with the Ministry of Agriculture’s efforts to strengthen international partnerships, mobilize resources, support farmers' resilience, protect livestock, and enhance food security in Palestine.
