The Ministry of Agriculture continue to implement the vaccination and tagging campaign to strengthen the resilience of livestock breeders by vaccinating more than 10,000 sheep and goats against foot-and-mouth diseas

The Ministry of Agriculture, represented by the General Directorate of Veterinary Services and Animal Health and its departments in the governorates, continue to implement the vaccination and tagging campaign against foot-and-mouth disease (SAT-1) as part of its efforts to protect livestock and enhance the resilience of farmers in the targeted areas.

In Masafer Yatta, on the first day of the campaign, the Ministry carried out vaccinations in the communities of Jinba, Al-Markaz, and Al-Halawa, where 4,000 sheep were vaccinated. On the second day, veterinary teams continued their work in the same communities, vaccinating an additional 3,000 head of sheep and tagged 3,500 head of goats, benefiting 85 farmers. The campaign targeted the areas of Sahit, Yanan, and Al-Majaz on the following day to complete veterinary coverage for the pastoral communities in the region. In the northern Jordan Valley, the Veterinary Department of the Tubas and Northern Jordan Valley Agriculture Directorate completed its vaccination campaign in the Ras al-Ahmar area. On the first day, 1,218 sheep and goats were vaccinated, and on the second day, an additional 1,800 head were vaccinated and tagged, benefiting 18 farmers. The campaign is scheduled to continue in the Al-Hamma and Ras al-Ahmar areas in the coming days.

This brings the total number of sheep and goats vaccinated over the two days in the targeted areas to 10,018, including 7,000 in Masafer Yatta and 3,018 in the northern Jordan Valley. A total of 5,300 head were tagged on the second day.

The Ministry of Agriculture affirms that the campaign comes within a comprehensive national plan to prevent epidemic diseases and protect livestock, which contributes to enhancing food security and supporting the resilience of breeders in rural and marginalized areas, and enhances the ability of the agricultural sector to face various challenges and maintain the sustainability of livestock production.
